David's Journey...
My story is much different than my beautiful wife. I was born and raised in the Quad City area with my mom Amy until I was 13 years old. My life moved at a much faster pace when I relocated to Queens, New York with my dad, Mark. There I meet my life-long friends, made memories that people only dream of and experienced BIG city life. I stayed in NY until I was 27 years old. I started a family and had two beautiful girls, Gianella and Myla. Passionate about finding a simple, happy and more quiet life, I moved my family back to the Quad Cities where my heart always belonged. Having a curiosity to gardening and cultivating I became close friends with my neighbor Dave whom was a gardener, our inquisitive minds enjoyed growing produce.
In 2010 I landed a career with John Deere Seeding, then Harvester, JD Dubuque and finally JD NA-PDC. These essential experiences have molded me into the man I am today. I am grateful for the struggles and experiences, if not for the crucial knowledge of agriculture I wouldn't be successful today.
As life usually goes, I didn't think that my journey would lead me to where we are now. I thoroughly enjoy my days at the farm and look forward to growing. I pride myself on growing the HOTTEST of the hottest peppers in the world and learn everyday the challenges of horticulture.
Liz's Journey....
Meeting David was by chance. He came into my life right when I needed him the most. My husband is EVERYTHING to me. A devoted dad to our three kids Sebastian, Gianella and Myla....... an absurdly patient husband, jack of all trades, extremely great driver and everything I am not.
As far as my flower journey....it began in 2007 walking into a small town flower shop in Andalusia, Illinois. That specific flower shop is no longer in business but the memories and experience will last me a lifetime. Over the course of 18 years I worked for several other flower shops in the Quad Cities surrounding area. Gaining a different set of experiences, skill and knowledge at every shop. Designing. Cleaning. Delivering. Teaching. Selling. Consulting. I never thought that the concepts and skills would led me on this specific journey of becoming a floriculturist. I’m delighted to be on this journey.
I fell in love with everything to do with flowers when I was a young girl. Walking through the horse pasture admiring wildflowers and all things natural. I would pick a single stem or tiny bouquet as a token of my love for my mom, Vera. Being on the farm forces me to reminisce now.…standing on our family farm as a young girl closing my eyes, listening to the wind tickle the leaves of the tall cottonwoods and a distinctive fleeting smell of lilacs. That’s home.
Is there a floral smell that takes you back to a place, to a magical memory?
Creating. Learning. Failures. Triumphs. Still to this day I experience the rollercoaster ride of emotions flower farming provides. I am passionate about all of the beautiful aromatic florals, it all feels natural. I push myself to learn everything I possibly can.
So where are we now? Our family agreed to take a tremendous leap and start a specialty cut floriculture farm selling specialty cuts and other seasonal products. We are blessed and beyond grateful for the support we have received from our family and friends. We know this journey will not be easy, if it was easy everyone would do it!
